Chucho Valdés is in fact the heart and soul of the Jazz Fest. The international aspect of the Havana program is a must for him, so you know what to expect in terms of international prestige and quality. You can count on the Festival once again this year to be an historic musical event, and well organized, even though the final program will be released only a few weeks before the departure. The event is so coveted by international jazz artists, that most of them come without any remuneration, and some at the last minute. The final closing concert is invariably a joint effort in which Chucho Valdés brings together on the stage his most prestigious international guests and other Cubans for a jazz "dream team" performance never to be forgotten.

Some historical background on the Jazz Fest

In order to facilitate participation, VCC offers in collaboration with our Cuban partners three hotels for all budgets.

We suggest you the hotel Riviera as it is the headquarters of the Festival and it is close to the main concerts halls and jazz clubs. VCC clients will receive a personalized service from the staff of the Riviera hotel.

Most of the musicians and jazzmen invited are usually staying at the Riviera. In the evening you could assist to mini concerts and jam session during the Jazz Festival event.

Click here to see a map of the area where all the activities take place. You will notice Riviera Hotel (four star) on the left of the map, situated right on the Malecón, the ocean wall facing the bay. This hotel is the main headquarters of the Festival. On the right of the map, you will see the Hotel Habana Libre (four stars) also near the bay.

Click here to get a glimpse of the Concert Halls used during the Jazz Fest. Entrance to these daily concerts, as well as transportation to and from your hotel to these venues, are all included in the VCC package.

There are also collateral activities such as jam sessions in jazz clubs.

Testimonials from clients who took part in the 2004 Havana Jazz Festival

I have experienced Cincinnati, Cleveland, Newport and Monterrey Jazz Festivals in the US, and Montreux Festival in Switzerland. The Havana Jazz Festival ranks as one of my favorite. Although the US performers listed were not present the musicians from Cuba and the countries represented (Canada, England, France, South Africa, and Brazil, Dominican Republic) were just phenomenal. The acoustics and sound systems in the concert halls were world class. The Havana Jazz Festival just proves Jazz is "World Music". The only drawback was trying to decide which concerts to go to when there are several concerts happening at the same time.

Although the u.s. musicians dropped out, this was a wonderful festival. Hope to be able to enjoy it again in 2005!

We thoroughly enjoyed the jazz festival - congratulations to Culture Cuba - and thank you for your time and support in responding to queries etc. Hotel accommodation - Hotel Ingleterra was superb and Cuban guides were just great!

Bonjour Veronique - just wanted to drop you a note and thank you very much for the wonderful time I had while in Cuba. This was a real plus for me. I actually had no idea what to expect. Travelling alone from Ottawa I met people from my home town and while in Havana I met people who I will be friends with for a while. Most important is that our tour guide Loreta was absolutely fantastic!! Bonus points for Loreta - a wonderful personality and so so so knowledgeable in all aspects of Havana life. She truly took good care of all of us who were strangers to begin with and who became friends - she took us all under her wing and made sure we were all collected at the right time and place. Again Merci, Gracias.

This is what our clients had to say about the 2002 Jazz Festival:

Thank you for introducing me to Cuba and the Havana Jazz Festival. There were eleven from Adelaide / Australia that finally made it to the Festival. All were very impressed with the Festival, the organization and the extraordinary talented musicians that performed each night.
J. H., Australia

Thank you, so much, for your and Mr. August’s work to make our trip a magnificent success. Everything was excellent: food, accommodations, available information and occasional assistance from VCC staff. I was particularly impressed that the entire group waited to find myself and my companion as we searched for our misplaced luggage in the Havana airport upon arrival. I can’t think of a single thing that you and your company could have done better. Thanks again! Warm regards,
T. R., USA

The festival was very exciting, so good that I will be back in 2004. I came for the music and the friendly Cuban people, both were great.
I met a nice Cuban couple who invited me to their house and thought me how to dance Cuban style, we went out to dance clubs and had great time. In general it is easy to talk to local people especially if one speaks some Spanish.
Thanks for every thing.
B. R., USA

Trip was wonderful. Jazz, itself, was good with a large number of marvellous musicians.
The hotel (Riviera) was great, the hotel staff friendly, and the chance to sit down and talk with the musicians was great. Its location is fabulous - that plus the friendly staff makes me prefer it over the plusher more expensive places that shall remain un-named.
Keep up your good work - I'll go again.
W. ML, USA

We did have a good time and you and your organization did a fine job. Thank you.
The hotel (Riviera) was just what we wanted and you provided us with everything as promised. The music was a mixed bag. Some was terrific and some not so good. That is to be expected however.
Again, thank you for your good work. We had a wonderful time.
T. L. and K. H., USA
