Program for Cienfuegos
(Faro Luna), 2005-2006
(Based on two weeks - You can prolong your stay for an additional week or two)
Note that the VCC package rates include air, hotel, 3 meals/day
and all the activities listed below, as well as the excursions
in modern air-conditioned buses, accompanied by the Cuban
professors.
All entrance fees to museums or institutions are also included
aside from the two activities in the evening in Cienfuegos
(entrance from 2 CUC to 5 CUC). There is no need for tipping
anyone.

- 30 hours of courses, from 9 A.M. to Noon, ten days, virtually
all during the week-days.
- 4 levels - Beginners I, Beginners II, Intermediate, Advanced
- Placement test the first day of class.
- Four course manuals, one each for Beginners I, Beginners II,
Intermediate and Advanced. These manuals are also linked to the
excursions and visits in order to prepare the clients so that
they can appreciate to the maximum these activities.
- Ten people maximum per class
- 32 hours of practical activity such as excursions, in addition
to the 30 hours of courses, for a total of 62 hours of pedagogy.
- At all levels, the method used is the modern interactive one, so that the client learns as quickly as possible to speak and understand. For those who are Beginners I, the teachers may speak some English in order to get you going or to explain something.
For those in the advanced level, the course is very personalized
and caters to overcoming the problems people are experiencing
in order to more fully master the language. All courses are linked
to the practical activities.
- Practical day-time activities: Excursions.
| a) (3 hours) Excursion to
the beautiful City of Cienfuegos, known as the Pearl of the
South. By bus and a short walk - A visit to the historical center
of the city, the Teatro Terry, the local fruit and vegetable
market, a stroll along the boulevard of the city, a visit to
Palacio de Valle, unique architecture. |
| b) (3 hours) Excursion by
boat in Cienfuegos Bay. Visit a fisherman's village and Castillo
de Jagua, the third most important fortress from the colonial
period, to get more of a feeling about Cuba's history. |

| c) ( 2 hours). Excursion to
an agricultural co-op, a primary school and a local medical
clinic. |
| d) (2 hours). Excursion to the Botanical
Gardens.

- Practical evening activities. Excursions into town and cultural activities
at the hotel:
a) (2 hours) Cultural evening at the hotel (Cuban music and poetry)
b) (2 hours) Cultural evening at the hotel (Cuban film)
c) (2 hours) Discussion at the hotel (documentary film on one aspect
of Cuban reality)
d) (3 hours) Excursion to Cienfuegos (show, depending on the cultural
calendar of the City.)

e) (3 hours) Excursion in Cienfuegos’ countryside (Palmira).
You will discover the Afro-Cuban culture. Visit of Palmira’s
museum, visit of the “Templo Santa Barbara” with animation
with the folkloric group Obbakoso.
f) (8 hours) Salsa Dance lessons in spanish.
g) (2 hours) Special farewell dinner and the presentation of certificates.
- Optional opportunities to practice your Spanish in the form of paid
excursions are also available on the week-ends when there are no courses
or pedagogical activities. VCC considers these options to be part of
the pedagogy for those who want to participate, and so one professor
accompanies the group during the trip. The full day options available
